What makes our chapter so successful?

There are numerous opportunities to gain experience, or share your talents within ASTD. Please consider one of the following opportunities:

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Discovery newsletters:
    • Work with Board on issues related to Discovery
    • Solicit members for articles
    • Edit/Write articles
  • SEWI-Blast email messages:
    • Gather blast announcements from the website
    • Edit blasts
    • Send blast in HTML format to Headquarters

MEMBER SERVICES

  • SEWI-ASTD Website:
    • Review and proofread the website pages (except GoTo Guide and Job Bank) and make sure everything is free of spelling and grammar errors. Look for other areas that may need updating (ex. Events page – old info)
    • Work as liaison with Headquarters and other committees to change, update and design web site pages
  • GoTo Guide:
    • Review and proofread the webpage and make sure everything is free of spelling and grammar errors
    • Write articles or ads for Discovery and SEWI-ASTD Blast to help promote and market both, posting and using the GoTo Guide
    • Develop ideas and strategies to get the word out about the benefits of the GoTo Guide
    • Reviews the GoTo Guide applications for completeness before they are posted on the website
  • Job Bank:
    • Review and proofread the webpage and make sure everything is free of spelling and grammar errors
    • Review postings and make sure old ones are removed
    • Develop ideas and strategies to get the word out about the benefits of the Job Bank

MEMBERSHIP

  • Ambassadors:
    • Greet new members and guests at monthly program. Help them to feel welcome and encourage active participation in the chapter
    • Design or help execute contacts to a select audience to get the word out about ASTD
    • Host webinars to welcome new members, answer questions and encourage them to attend the Member Orientation
    • Coordinate announcements (website, email) for new member webinar with Headquarters
  • Member Orientation:
    • Determine dates and find location for 2 orientation programs
    • Develop announcement for orientation and send to Headquarters who will post it on the website and send to members
    • Send a reminder email to members who have registered for the orientation program
    • Team present at the member orientation program
  • Involvement Cheerleaders:
    • Contact members who indicated an interest in getting involved
    • Contact ASTD committee chairs to determine involvement needs
    • Update the Volunteer Opportunities list
    • Update the ASTD Involvement list – those who have been involved in ASTD
    • Develop ideas and strategies to increase active involvement of chapter members and present proposal to board

OD CERTIFICATE

  • Strategy:
    • Serve on committee with instructors and others to strategize how to make the most of the program
  • Publicity :
    • Help spread the word about the program by creating materials, writing articles, etc.


PROGRAMMING OR SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Less than 1 hour event:
    • Plan a recorded podcast or recorded eLearning
  • 1 ½ - 2 hour Program:
    • Plan an entire monthly event with a partner. Duties include; identify a presenter, location, write a blurb for Discovery, and emcee
  • ½ day or full day Special Event:
    • Help select and confirm Keynote and speakers for a special event
    • Find and confirm the location for a special event
    • Marketing the special event
    • Coordinating the materials for the event. This person(s) works closely with those marketing the event
    • Coordinating the sponsors and vendors for the event
    • Developing, distributing and collecting program evaluations
    • Assist with specific Day of event

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGS)
The SIGs are smaller-sized professional groups focused on one key aspect of the training profession based on current trends and best practices. Each group oversees its own ongoing development. Look for updates on SIG meetings in Discovery and on the Events website page.
