Assistant Director, Enterprise Learning Management

What's the role?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide thought leadership and industry best practices to Northwestern Mutual’s Enterprise Learning strategies as well as play a key leadership role in the planning and implementation of our corporate university model. Via teamwork within the Enterprise Learning team, across the Talent division, and in partnership with multiple HR, business, and learning stakeholders, you will:

  • Drive the planning and execution of the NM University as a part of the overall Enterprise Learning strategy, inclusive of content, vendor strategy, budget, and resources.
  • Contribute to and implement a metrics strategy for Enterprise Learning, effectively using data and an understanding of enterprise priorities to align University content to business and talent strategies, as well as demonstrate the impact of learning on individuals and the business.
  • In partnership with learning leaders across the enterprise, be a key contributor to the NM University operating model, ensuring organizational acceptance and adoption through effective change management practices.
  • Lead and manage the design of learning solutions that align and integrate with talent management practices, ultimately delivering enhanced business value.
  • Provide thought leadership on learning design innovation in partnership with learning leaders across the organization, enhancing the overall effectiveness and experience of learning at NM.
  • Manage assigned projects including tracking and ensuring that: projects are on track and on budget, communications, training, and change plans proactively address audience needs, and measurements and feedback loops are in place to determine successful accomplishment of desired outcomes.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Education or a related field or an equivalent combination of professional related work experience is required. Master’s degree desirable.
  • Applicable experience in a corporate learning/university environment supporting a variety of functional skillsets and learning modalities.
  • Effective communications skills – the ability to craft and deliver a compelling message in written and spoken form. Experience in instructional design and learning content creation is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible work experience in high performance companies to include a minimum of 5-7 years business experience, either within Learning Operations or Technology, with demonstrated ability to identify and drive business goals, objectives and key performance expectations.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance current challenges and future possibilities and create strategic focus in an actionable manner for the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead others through change in a fast paced, matrixed organization.
  • Strong consulting skills; including the ability to lead, direct, negotiate and influence with and without direct authority at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with proven ability to absorb complex information and independently solve problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an idea from conception to successful and sustainable execution.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with an ability to lead, manage, and collaborate in multiple and diverse projects. 

High degree of self-motivation with leadership and initiative in sharing information, contributing towards group goals, and accepting responsibility for results.

Job Title: Training & Development Specialist

CVMIC is seeking a Training & Development Specialist (.60 FTE) to coordinate and host webinars or virtual classrooms, work with others to develop instructor-led classroom training materials and resources, and design and develop elearning programs as well as maintain our Learning Management System, website and social media.
